The Manchurian Candidate – A current day version of the’62 film. Decorated war hero Raymond Shaw is now in place to become the Vice President of the US. Major Bennett Marco, a member of Raymond’s platoon is starting to doubt the events of the day Raymond saved the platoon. Marco is battling an uphill battle, but cannot resist the nagging feeling that something is not right.
Kill or Be Killed – Karate champions lock limbs as ex-Nazi tutor wants retaliation contrary to Japanese counterpart who defeated him in a contest during WW2. This is a cut above the customary martial arts fodder. Cast includes James Ryan, Norman Combes, Charlotte Michelle, and Danie DuPlessis. (90 minutes,’80)
A Little Sex – This film is essentially an R-rated Television-film, with Matheson wedding long-time girlfriend Capshaw hoping it can cure him of his habit of chasing ladies. Cast includes Tim Matheson, Kate Capshaw, Edward Herrmann, John Glover, Joan Copeland, Susanna Dalton, Wendie Malick, Wallace Shawn, Melinda Culea, and Bill Smitrovich. (95 minutes,’82)
AI Artificial Intelligence – In the near future, scientist Hurt and his team create a greatly advanced android child who might go through feelings, containing love. His adoption by a good couple who have lost a child is riddled with problems. This beguiling storyline draws us in, thanks in part to Osment’s splendid performance. Cast includes Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, Frances O’Connor, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Robards, William Hurt, Jake Thomas, Ken Leung, Michael Mantell, and Adrian Grenier. (145 minutes, 2001)
The Gene Krupa Story – Routine rendition of awesome jazz drummer’s life, his ups and downs, and his fight with pill dependency Cast includes Don Weis, Sal Mineo, Susan Kohner, James Darren, Susan Oliver, Yvonne Craig, Lawrence Dobkin, Red Nichols, and Buddy Lester. (101 minutes,’59)
