The newest trend in wedding photography is not for the shy, especially since it typically requires a bride to be wearing very little clothing (and being photographed while doing so!)
The word boudoir is rooted in the French language and means ‘a woman’s dressing room or bedroom.’ It makes sense, then, that it would the subject of the photos would be a woman in her most private, intimate and vulnerable state. But don’t think these photos are x-rated – they’re much more based on suggestion and sensuality and are likely to be rated PG-13. Think pin-up girls, not adult film stars.
Boudoir photography is gaining popularity as a wedding-day gift from a bride to her groom, typically bound up in a nice mini-album. One bride wrapped up the gift and left with her groom with the strict instructions not to open it until the wedding morning – you can imagine the anticipation while the bride was walking down the aisle later that day!
Many brides are concerned about privacy or exposing themselves to a photographer they don’t know very well. A professional photographer should be very conscious of this and do their best to make you feel comfortable. Go to an experienced boudoir photographer to ensure this. When you arrive at the photographer, sip on a glass of wine or champagne to calm your nerves and make you feel a little sexier.
Remember, unless it’s something both you and your photographer are comfortable with, there’s no need to be completely nude for boudoir photography. There are plenty of get-ups out there that will provide a provocative and incredibly sexy photo that make your new husband’s jaw drop. Not only could you don lingerie (try out both racy lingerie and romantic lingerie to get photos of both), but there are plenty of other outfits to consider. The best thing to do is consider your husband’s tastes and lifestyle.
For example – put on your version of his work uniform. Marrying a policeman? A sexy female cop outfit will likely be a big hit. Bring his favorite sports team into the bedroom. Bring an oversized jersey of his favorite team (or a tightly-fitted one with matching panties) and wear nothing else. He’ll go crazy.
Bring a variety of colors and materials to wear. You’ll want a lot of variety when choosing the finished product.
In the end, don’t forget to have fun with this. Many women think that if they don’t have the perfect body, they can’t set up a boudoir photography session – that could be further from the truth. Not only will your photographer shoot you in the most flattering light and angles possible, your new husband will be thrilled that you’re showing off the sexiness he sees in you every day.
