Quick weight loss is not the same as lasting weight loss. There are a myriad of quick weight loss diets available, but any loss you experience is likely to be fleeting.
Here’s a little secret: any diet can result in quick weight loss. This is why people seem to lose weight on crazy fad diets.
These quick weight loss diets and others like them inevitably fail. To lose weight and maintain your ideal weight, you need real change in your life. Not a fad.
It is understandable why so many people turn to quick weight loss diets. We always hold out the hope, despite our present and past frustrations, that this diet is different. It will work if we only try hard enough.
We also want fast results. When you’ve battled your weight for years, losing ten pounds in a week is a dream. We’ll take it, even if deep down we know it won’t last.
Here are some of the many reasons why fad diets don’t live up to the hype:
1. They’re boring!
Most quick weight loss diets focus on specific food; they don’t encourage a balanced approach to eating. We eat the same foods all the time.
Eating the same food all the time becomes a chore. It does not encourage us to consume less, rather we?
2. Cheating!
If you’ve been doing well on your fad diet, eating the same foods in the same amounts for days, you figure you’ve earned the reward of a sugary, high calorie treat. That one little treat, a tiny harmless cookie, can lead you down the road to overeating.
Quick weight loss diets lead to cheating which leads to overeating.
3. They can be hard to stick with.
Quick weight loss diets are notoriously hard to integrate into your life and to make a lasting part of your eating habits. From boredom to lack of variety to binging, it is too easy to cheat or quit.
4. I weigh more?
Nothing is worse than losing a little weight with a quick weight loss diet and then gaining every pound ? and sometimes more ? back the instant you start eating normally. Your body may be trying to retrieve some of the nutrients you lost while on the diet, or your mind may be rebelling.
It is devastating to realize you haven’t made any progress.
You can avoid all the pain and frustration of quick weight loss diets by eating healthy and exercising.
There is just no other way to lose weight and maintain your ideal body size. Good diet and exercise are essential.
By adding some of these tips, you can see real results that last:
* Eat more vegetables. They are packed with nutrition.
* Add more fiber to your diet. Not only does it help improve overall health, it helps your body burn more fat.
* Try eating small meals throughout the day.
* Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it should be the largest. Make dinner small and light.
* Find any excuse to move. Calf lifts while you brush your teeth, some free weights while you watch tv, playing with your children at the park ? these things help you become more fit.
* Exercise most days. If you can’t fit in a long session, do several short ones.
* Add rich whole grains to your diet.
* Make better calorie choices. Opt for nutrient-dense foods to get the most benefit from each calorie. Eat quality before you reach for empty calories.
The longest journeys begin with a single step. This is true of weight loss too. Little steps can lead to great rewards, and if you make a few good changes, you can achieve a lasting change in your body and health.
The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to adopt a healthier lifestyle. It will become part of your everyday life, not a “diet,” which means it will be much easier to stick with.
Don’t let your hopes rise and fall with quick weight loss diets. You deserve more than their empty promises.
