The Top 8 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

1. Drew Brees – QB – New Orleans Saints: 413/635, 5,069 Yards, 34 TD’s, 17 INT’s, 10 300 YD Games: Brees is the only QB coming off a 5,000 yard season. He was very effective last year without his best receiver, this year he has Marques Colston back. Brees will once again be the best Fantasy QB.

2. Tom Brady: I’d be tempted to put him at #1, but his rustiness could be an issue at the beginning of the season and it remains to be seen how well he’s recovered from injury. He’s looked strong in the preseason, but that’s no sure thing. Now that we’ve thrown out the risk factors, Brady is a fantasy stud and could easily be the best in football.

3. Peyton Manning: The closest thing there is to a sure thing. Never misses a start, rarely has a bad start, has talented receivers by his side, and seems to put up the same great numbers season after season. Owners should feel good every Sunday with Manning at their side.

4. Aaron Rodgers: A breakout 2008 season showed the football world that Aaron Rodgers is for real, and cheese-heads have little reason to miss Brett Favre at this point. Rodgers passes the ball a ton, makes big plays, and can even run a little. Look for a lot of TDs out of Rodgers this season.

5. Philip Rivers – QB – San Diego Chargers: 312/478, 4,009 Yards, 34 TD’s, 11 INT’s, 5 300 YD Games: Rivers would have been ahead of Rodgers in my rankings if Rodgers did not have 4 Rushing TD’s. Rivers will have another very impressive year in 2009. Last season his running game was bothered with nagging injuries. This year with LT back to full health, Rivers will have even more open receivers to get the ball to, he showed he can do that with ease last year.

6. Kurt Warner. Who knew the old man still had it? What an amazing 2008 it was for Warner. He has the best two receivers in football by his side, and they do some amazing things – partly because they have such a talented quarterback throwing them the ball. Still, he’s a risk to get injured at his age.

7. Tony Romo. The big question on everyone’s mind is how Romo will fare without the presence of Terrell Owens and no one really knows yet. Roy Williams should fill in nicely for Owens, and a quarterback this talented will simply find ways to win games.

8. Jay Cutler – QB – Chicago Bears: 384/616, 4,526 Yards, 25 TD’s, 18 INT’s, 8 300 YD Games: Cutler was very effective last year in a basically pass happy offense. Now he is with the Bears. Last year he had no running game to speak of and now he has an elite runner in Matt Forte. This could help Cutler or hurt him. It could help him by not being so predictable and passing virtually every time they could to being more balanced. Or it could hurt him by Forte taking too much of his workload.
